Visually Expressive Images
Mar 22nd
This picture depicts a Vietnam War POW returning back home to his loved ones. This is a great picture in many ways. First, we have the war hero returning but we only see his back. To me, this man can represent any soldier returning home from war. The faces on his family members faces are of pure joy and happiness. They are all wearing their nicest clothes because it is such an important day. The woman in the front with her arms extended for a hug gives the picture such extreme emotion. Other family members race behind her to get their embrace from the soldier. This also seems to take place at an army base, and possibly an airport, meaning he likely just stepped off a plane and is back home for the first time since leaving. It is a happy picture, and shows that returning home to your loved ones is the best feeling of all.
My Very Abstract Painting
Mar 22nd
The Original by William Baziotes titled “Cyclops” (1947):

My own rendition:
When looking for abstract art this picture caught my eye as being very creative. I used a variety of layers and changed the opacity to change color tones. I also used the eyedropper tool to incorporate the colors form the original painting to my project. Using the shape tool and selecting lines, I was able to create the zig-zag of lines int he upper right of the picture. The brushes were used to create the darker “shadows in the background and on the creature itself. In all, this was a great way to be introduced to Photoshop, and it was good to be able to play around with the variety of different aspects. I think I should stick with my day job, however. I can only improve from here!
